THERE'S A COUPON LINGO?!?!?

Oh, doctors have their medical jargon, hippies have their nonsense slang and teens have their own language all together. But what about people who use coupons? They DO...?!?!?


Of course! Why, we wouldn't be cool if we didn't! There are a THOUSAND different terms and abbreviations that are out there, and I'm not as cool as I'd like to be. I don't know them all. I'm fairly new to using coupons and REALLY new to sharing these apparent secrets that nobody knew about (until the show "Extreme Couponing" appeared on TLC). So, why would I want to share more? I want to because somebody went to the trouble to share them with me. So here are a few of the basics. Remember, I'm still learning!! Any ones that you may know, PLEASE share them with me if I have forgotten any!!

B1G1F: Buy 1 Get 1 Free (B2G1F, B3G1F... etc.)

FPC: Free Product Coupon

IP: Internet Printable Coupon (sometimes IPC)

MIR: Mail In Rebate

AR: After Rebate (after you mail in your MIR)

TEAR PAD: These are coupons that stick out near the product being sold on the shelf. Grab only what you need, never what you want. This allows EVERYBODY to have a chance to save! Grab some for the coupon train if you'd like... just don't hog all the deals to yourself! ;)

PM: Price Match (WalMart Canada does this with flyers)

COUPON FAIRY: Somebody who leaves extra coupons by the product they had the coupon for. This allows for somebody else to pick it up and use that coupon! You can also go up to somebody who might look like they'll need a coupon. Make sure to ask, as sometimes they will say 'no', or they may simply be a couponer as well! Most of the time, I've found people to be very greatful for a 'gift'. And honestly, it felt really good to be able to help that person out.

Unfortunately, as I've previously mentioned; I'm new to this. I do not yet know all the lingo, slang, terms, whatever you'd like to call it. But when it appears forums or on Facebook pages that have coupons as their main interest, it helps to know some of the abbreviations used. It helped me, hope this helps you!
