Life is odd. Why is it that parents usually have a tendency to be correct in their views? Why do we realize (albeit later in life) that they were right all along? It's frustrating to no end the little things that my father and I would argue about, me in the wrong (seeing that now that I have kids of my own).

I finished watching a movie that caught my fancy years and years ago. It's about these two brothers who take vigilante justice upon Mobsters. Two Irish brothers (I love, LOVE, LOVE their accents) take on the Mobs in Boston. Two noble gentlemen that the press labels "The Saints". They are tracked by an FBI agent who is... er... quite 'flamboyant'. The agent (Willem Dafoe) decides that he likes what they're doing and lets them run the streets, ridding of evil villains from Boston.

Why bring up the movie?

I bring it to your attention because it is an old favorite of mine. It's called "Boondock Saints". It's extremely graphic and the use of the 'F' word seems to be in every sentence, sometimes it just being the sentence itself repeated over and over again. It is quite a funny movie, though.

That would be my defence, of course. Would I be able to sit down with my dad (or worse... MY MOTHER) and watch this movie with them? Good grief, NO! Most kids feel uncomfortable watching a movie with their parents that consists of a couple kissing. Not me. I'm the one that's uncomfortable watching a movie with a lot of verbal vomit, sitting beside my dad as he just stares at the TV commenting on the amount of blood, or my mother sitting there with her fingers in her ears and humming a song (off tune) from church.

And now I find myself wondering, would I let my kids watch this movie? Another incident would be with the famous (and absolutely wonderfully, incredible) show 'The Simpsons'. Rude, disgusting, occasionally shocking, my father would not allow me to watch this. Yet, I let my kids watch it. Why? For the reason that this stuff is all around them anyway. It's a new generation, and now I'm trying to protect them from such cartoons as 'Family Guy' or 'American Dad'. And when they get older and have kids of their own, they're going to let their kids watch those shows and try to protect them from whatever other abomination TV leaks out of their screens.

My only hope is that I don't watch 'Boondock Saints' again to show my family that I'm going to stand by the decision to protect and guard my children from a world of violence... even though it is already around us now.

Just don't tell anybody that my dad was right, okay? I'll NEVER live it down...

(The Prayer that the 'Boondock' brothers say before they kill somebody)
"And Shepherds we shall be
For thee, my Lord, for thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand
Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In Nomeni Patri Et Fili Spiritus Sancti."
